“Comfort, Comfort” by Valerie Shields, performed by the Northwest Girlchoir, 12/1/99.

I’m working on a paper about Handel’s use of Hebrew Bible texts in the libretto for The Messiah. I’m particularly focused on Isaiah 40 (or I will be when I actually get it together to work on this seriously). Reading that chapter reminded me of another choral setting of this text, one that my children’s choir premiered when I was 13. I really like this piece, and I still listen to it often.
